Continental Drift:
California Painting, 1918 - 1939
January, 25-June 29, 2007

Continental Drift was a survey of oil paintings and watercolors from the end of the First World War up until the eve of the Second World War. The exhibition examined the social, economic, and cultural conditions that prevailed in California during the Roaring 20s and the Depression, and how the California scene was vigorously reinterpreted by a new generation of painters with influences from European, New York, and the American Regionalist schools. The paintings were selected entirely from the collections of Pioneer member families and include work by some of the most significant artists of the period, among them Maynard Dixon, Percy Gray, Armin Hansen, and Louis Siegriest.
